Did you know that 70% of people searching on Google click on non-sponsored links and 75% never go to the second page? Best SEO is a series of posts with a goal to cover the basics of SEO so that every new blogger can do his own SEO.
This is the first part of “Best SEO” series and it will answer questions like; What is a crawler/spider, What happens when you search for something and give you three compelling reasons why SEO is good for you.
If you have a specific question that you want answered in the second part, leave a comment below or on my Facebook Page. Whichever you prefer.
1. Best SEO: Crawlers are nothing scary
Don’t worry I am not going to talk about giant spiders or cockroaches. By crawlers I mean computers. Just imagine your normal everyday computer or laptop BUT on steroids! In fact from now on I`ll refer to crawlers as robots. I don’t want to talk about crawlers for the rest of this article. J
A robot is automatic computer software that scans the internet by following link after link. Sometimes people refer to these robots as spiders or crawlers. Spiders because a spider creates a web and crawlers because…. crawlers are everywhere just like a robot. This is at least how I make sense of the two words. If you have another view on why people call robots spiders and crawlers, leave me a comment in the comment box below.
Best SEO TIP: It is important that your internal links are good. If your internal links are bad, then the robot will have difficulties with finding all of your pages. Imagine that you have a large house on two floors with no stairs going to the second floor. How are you going to reach the second floor?
Google has a robot which is named Googlebot
Bing has a robot that is named Bingbot.
2. Best SEO: Computers on steroids
So a Googlebot or a Bingbot or any other form of creepy crawlers come to pay you a visit, then what happens?
Once the robots are done making themselves at home in YOUR website they are arrogant enough to store all your pages in their database. The primary reason for doing this is the ability to quickly identify and display your search results once you have entered a search term (keyword) in Google. What if Google had to go to your website and search through all pages every time someone searched for something on Google? This is ridiculous and so inefficient. This could even be a good concept for Idiocracy 2 (the movie).
Google, Bing and all other large search engine companies have massive computers that are designed to store links and all sorts of other information on your website.
3. Best SEO: Why is SEO ‘cewl’ for your blog or website.
Click here to find out why SEO is cool. Just remember to come back.
- With SEO you will get more traffic because you will rank higher in the SERP (search engine result page)
- SEO is competitive. Just wait until you get on Page 1 of Google for your chosen keyword and you`ll know what I mean.
- If you are selling a product or a service, then more traffic equals more customers. This will bring you more revenue.
This pretty much sums it up for now. The higher you are on the search engines the more traffic you will receive and the easier it will be for you to achieve your goals. Whether it is to sell your product, get subscribers to your newsletter or just gain exposure. Organic SEO is the only way to achieve this.
A crawler is nothing more than a code that is designed to find new websites. Google and other major search engines store information about your website on massive hard drives for quick access. SEO is an acronym for onsite and offsite search engine optimization and is the ticket to more traffic.
Best SEO Interesting Fact: Google serves your results in less than half a second.
I would like to be objective and for that same reason I will say that there are those people who believe that SEO is not good for you because people over optimize their websites and concentrate on ranking rather than on quality.
What my opinion on the subject is that quality is important but if you can somehow help Google to discover and rank your website faster, then why not? I am not referring to to any dangerous (Black Hat SEO) methods out there. I am strictly a White Hat SEO person and in the future series of Best SEO I will only share white hat and good SEO methods.
